As the editor responsible for Wi-Fi networking products here at PCMag, I’ve worked on hundreds of mesh networking reviews over the years. So I know that very few systems are as well-suited to gaming as the Asus ROG Rapture GT6, which is currently on sale for $299.99 during Amazon Prime Day. Here at PCMag, we’ve reviewed scores of mesh systems that eliminate Wi-Fi dead spots, but the Asus ROG Rapture GT6 (which normally retails for $479.99) is one of the few we’ve seen made exclusively for online gamers.

The GT6 is a sleek-looking, two-piece mesh system that combines game-enhancing settings, fast throughput, strong signal performance, and free Trend Micro network security software in a package that’s a snap to set up and manage.

Asus has gone to great lengths to make sure that you know what the ROG Rapture GT6 is all about: The two identical nodes, available in Black or Moonlight White, have a hexagonal shape with the mottos “For Those Who Dare” and “Join the Republic” etched and embossed, respectively, on the right side. Silver lettering on the left side lets you know you’re looking at a “Wi-Fi 6 Gaming Mesh Router.”

The GT6 system turned in class-leading scores in our throughput performance tests. The router node delivered an impressive 941Mbps in the close-proximity test. Also, the GT6 router and its satellite node did a superb job of broadcasting strong Wi-Fi throughout our test home.

About Tom Brant

Deputy Managing Editor

Tom Brant

I’m the deputy managing editor of the hardware team at PCMag.com. Reading this during the day? Then you’ve caught me testing gear and editing reviews of laptops, desktop PCs, and tons of other personal tech. (Reading this at night? Then I’m probably dreaming about all those cool products.) I’ve covered the consumer tech world as an editor, reporter, and analyst since 2015.

I’ve evaluated the performance, value, and features of hundreds of personal tech devices and services, from laptops to Wi-Fi hotspots and everything in between. I’ve also covered the launches of dozens of groundbreaking technologies, from hyperloop test tracks in the desert to the latest silicon from Apple and Intel.

I’ve appeared on CBS News, in USA Today, and at many other outlets to offer analysis on breaking technology news.

Before I joined the tech-journalism ranks, I wrote on topics as diverse as Borneo’s rain forests, Middle Eastern airlines, and Big Data’s role in presidential elections. A graduate of Middlebury College, I also have a master’s degree in journalism and French Studies from New York University.
