Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 17 series in September, but there have been several notable leaks this past week, so let’s have a look and see what the online chatter has been about.

The first of our leaks reveals the chipsets that’ll power the new phones, with the standard iPhone 17 and the new iPhone 17 Air rocking a new A19 chip. The Pro models will get the A19 Pro chip, according to the latest intel from analyst Jeff Pu, via 9to5Mac. Nothing out of the ordinary here.

Whether the iPhone 17 Air runs on the A19 or A19 Pro has been causing some conversation, with varying rumours backing both sides.

The analyst also revealed that the standard model will stick with 8GB of RAM, which is what the iPhone 16 has. However, the Pro models will up the ante with 12GB of RAM. This might annoy some, however, we’ve never found 8GB memory insufficient on the iPhone 16 range.

The iPhone 17 series may also finally get a 120Hz ProMotion display, which would be a huge upgrade from previous models. Previously, this faster refresh tech has been exclusive to Pro phones.

There’s likely to be camera upgrades too, with the Pro models possibly getting a 48MP telephoto lens and a 24MP front-facing camera.

The launch event is said to take place between September 8 and 12, according to Mark Gurman. That’s in keeping with Apple’s tradition of launching new iPhones in September.

What about the available colours?

Another report from this week concerns the colour options Apple is likely to offer for the new iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and rumoured iPhone 17 Air models.

Leaker Majin Bu reckons Apple is playing around with purple and green for the base iPhone 17 model. The rumoured ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to be a little more colourful, might come in a light blue shade.

Reputable leaker Sonny Dickson has also revealed potential new colours for the iPhone 17 Pro models, including dark blue and copper.

Macworld has reported that the iPhone 17 base model will likely come in black, white, steel grey, green, purple and light blue. The iPhone 17 Air will offer black, a brighter white, light blue and light gold.

The lighter blue of the iPhone 17 Air is said to be similar to the Sky Blue of the MacBook Air M4, a colour we are very fond of and would welcome. The light gold shade may be a softer version of the current Desert Titanium.

Meanwhile, the Pro models will keep black and white but add a grey shade, a dark blue and a fluorescent orange. It’s also been reported that Apple is moving from titanium to aluminium for the Pro models, and that may have an influence on the colours available.

Well, that’s certainly a lot to take in. But nothing stands out as surprising, and with the iPhone 17 series set for a launch in just a few months, we expect more information to arrive soon. Of course, there are all just rumours and could not reference the actual products we see.
