Watch out for your data. Google, supported by several cybersecurity experts, asks all users to uninstall certain applications present on the Play Store without delay. For several months, some applications, disguised as cryptocurrency portfolios or financial tools, have made the misfortune of Internet users. These fraudulent software, discovered by the specialized company Cyble, succeed in passing the automated controls of the Play Store by usurping the identity of renowned solutions: their interface, their icon, their name – everything seems authentic. These are actually programs that install phishing sites or extract confidential user data from the first opening.
Uninstall these applications!
The extent of the phenomenon challenges. More than twenty applications have been identified, each behaving in a similar way: the user entrusts his sensitive information – such as cryptocurrency portfolio recovery sentences, thinking of interacting with his usual service. These data is immediately transmitted to hackers who can thus empty bank accounts or crypto, without any other manipulation of the owner of the phone.

Other variants exist and are regularly updated by organized groups, which recycle publisher accounts, or create harmless applications, before inserting a malware line in subsequent updates. So beware of the software you install on your phone.
How to protect yourself?
To protect themselves from these threats, Google strongly recommends that it ensure that Play Protect Or activate on all Android devices: to do this, just open Google Play Store, click on the profile icon at the top right, and select Play Protect. Then check that the option “Analyze applications with Play Protect” is activated. If it is not infallible, the tool will check the installed applications daily and warn you in the event of suspicious behavior detection. In the event of a positive analysis, it will offer to uninstall the incriminated application and will even be able to reset the dangerous authorizations validated without your knowledge. According to Google, this surveillance, automated and reinforced by AI, allowed the web giant to block 2.36 million applications in 2024.
