With the Mesa 25.2 open-source OpenGL and Vulkan graphics driver code having been branched last week ahead of its stable release in August, I carried out some fresh benchmarks on AMD’s exciting Strix Halo platform using the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395 with Radeon 8060S Graphics to see where the Linux performance is now at for the RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics.

This round of Mesa 25.2 open-source graphics driver benchmarking was done with the HP ZBook Ultra G1a with the flagship Strix Halo SKU, the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395 with the Radeon 8060S (RDNA 3.5) integrated graphics.

AMD Strix Halo with Ubuntu Linux

This premium AMD Strix Halo laptop was tested with Ubuntu 25.04 at its defaults of Linux 6.14 and Mesa 25.0.7 graphics drivers. Then there were Mesa 25.1 tests done using the Kisak Fresh PPA for providing Mesa 25.1.6. Lastly was the Mesa 25.2 run as of the feature freeze / branching day using the Mesa ACO PPA for Mesa 25.2 Git as of last week. The PPAs were used for easy reproducibility by readers and others. The Linux 6.14 kernel was kept the same throughout testing as were the other software components tested with just upgrading the Mesa RADV and RadeonSI drivers each time.

Mesa 25.2 brings many open-source OpenGL/Vulkan driver improvements this quarter, especially for the RadeonSI Gallium3D and RADV Vulkan drivers. As shown in other testing, the RADV ray-tracing performance is particularly improved a lot — especially for the latest Radeon RX 9000 (RDNA 4) graphics and to a lesser extent RDNA 3 and RDNA 3.5. Let’s get to looking at these fresh numbers for Mesa 25.2 on Strix Halo.
