Honor is said to be developing a new flagship phone that would create a new benchmark in phone photography. As per new leaks, the company could introduce a phone with not one, but two 200MP cameras – the first in the world of smartphones. While the name is yet to be confirmed, it could be launched as the Honor Magic 8 Ultra, headlining the upcoming Magic 8 series. The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2-powered lineup could be unveiled later this year.
Dual 200MP Cameras Tipped to Debut
The leak, shared by tipster Fixed Focus Digital, suggests that Honor’s upcoming device could debut with a dual 200MP camera system. If true, this would make it the world’s first smartphone to feature such a configuration. The setup is expected to include a 200MP main camera and a 200MP periscope telephoto lens – ideal for ultra-clear zoom and long-distance photography.
Several premium phones, including the Honor Magic7 RSR Porsche Edition, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, and Vivo X200 Ultra, already feature a 200MP periscope lens. But none have combined two 200MP sensors in a single device. With this move, Honor may be targeting competitors like the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and Oppo Find X9 Ultra in the flagship space.
Honor’s Imaging Tech Could Get a Big Boost
Honor has always prioritised long-range zoom capabilities. Its in-house “Super Zoom” technology already delivers up to 100x digital zoom powered by AI, capturing sharp and detailed shots even at far-off distances. The new dual 200MP setup is likely to take this to the next level, perhaps with improved low-light performance and clearer zoomed-in shots.
Luo Wei, Honor’s Chief Imaging Engineer, recently addressed rumours around a 1-inch sensor or dual-lens-per-sensor designs. He denied those reports, emphasising that Honor focuses on meaningful innovation instead of overengineering.
He added that Honor’s imaging strategy is centred around features AI can’t yet replace, areas where AI can boost results, and innovations that only work well with AI. Luo also claimed that competitors may take up to three years to catch up with what Honor is building.
