Since its launch in early June on Nintendo Switch 2, Mario Kart World Divides fans. If the title has been able to seduce by its aesthetic promise as well as the recovery of the classic formula with open world elements and 24 -playing clashes, some Game Design choices have aroused noticeable frustration. Update 1.2.0, deployed at the end of July, marks a real turning point. Nintendo corrects several criticized aspects, including the scarcity of traditional races in three towers.

Two types of races, only one frustration

The heart of the problem comes down to the distinction between the two types of circuits available in play: Trois racescompletely standard for an experience Mario mapand the courses “intermission”introduced specifically in Mario Kart World. The latter do not follow a loop route, but connect two points in a semi-open environment. They often include a free driving segment before bringing the players to a shortcut circuit, completed in a single turn.

These races are designed to energize the progression, but their structure, made up of long straight lines, rare turns and a depth use of objects, was quickly deemed uninteresting by part of the players. Their omnipresence in online sessions was also a problem. Some even argue that they ruin the DNA of the license.

At the exit, the players had found a way to get around the predominance of intermissions by systematically choosing the “random” option during the circuit vote. This method then favored traditional races. This bypass had become so popular that it often represented the entire votes in the parties at 24. But in an earlier update (1.1.2), Nintendo discreetly modified this functioning. From now on, the “random” option could also select an intermission.

Welcome backlash with version 1.2.0

However, in the last update, Nintendo is partially returning to its decision. The Patch Note mentions:

“Increase in the frequency of appearance of” LAP “type circuits in the selection when choosing the next circuit in” VS race “and wireless races.”

This change increases the chances of falling on a classic race, a compromise rather well received by players. It is not a total return to the original situation, but it rebalances the types of routes available. Some are now claiming the addition of a filter to choose exclusively three -round circuits.

This corrective patch does not sign a complete turnaround of the situation, but it shows that Nintendo is listening to returns, even when they go against its own artistic vision. The balance between innovation and loyalty to the inheritance of Mario map Remains fragile, but this update seems to put certain bases back in place. In the meantime, the correction gives a little hope to the purists. Beyond this strategic correction, version 1.2.0 makes many modifications:

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) has been weakened in Grand Prix and Knockout fashions, making it less punitive – except in “Battle” mode.
  • The boomerang, considered too precise, sees its reduced targeting power.
  • The RNG of objects has been adjusted: the triple fungus is now less frequent for players in second position, while the mystery blocks appear earlier in the races.
  • Several technical fixes have been made to circuits where players fell out of the card or stayed stuck in the vegetation.
  • In “open world” mode, bring together all the collection elements now modifies the visual appearance of figures, strengthening the feeling of progression.
