Check out HBO Max’s serious selection of shows and movies from all of its partner networks, including HBO, Discovery, Food Network, and more. New shows and movies are always being added, so here are my three top picks for this weekend and the week ahead, plus everything new streaming below. August begins with a big drop of movies, new shows and more. Here are the three best things to put on your watchlist.

This Week on Max: PCMag’s Picks

Final Destination: Bloodlines (Aug. 1)

The first of the month is when most of the new movies hit streaming services, and if you didn’t catch Final Destination: Bloodlines in theaters, it’s definitely worth a midnight watch. One of the most impressive opening sequences in franchise history, set in the swinging ’60s, kicks off a tale of death over decades, and the kills in this one are spectacular.

  • Directors: Zach Lipofsky, Adam Stein

  • Cast: Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Tio Briones, Richard Harmon

  • Genre: Horror

  • Rating: R

  • IMDb Rating: 6.8/10

The Yogurt Shop Murders (Aug. 3)

In 1991, just before closing time, four teenage girls in a frozen yogurt store in Austin, Texas, were bound, gagged, and shot in the head execution-style before the store was set on fire. The seemingly random act of extreme violence traumatized the community, but 30 years of investigations produced only dead end after dead end. This new docuseries goes deep, with interviews with police investigators, family members, and more.

  • Director: Margaret Brown

  • Genre: Documentary

  • Rating: TV-MA

Red Bull Soapbox Race: Season 1 (Aug. 6)

While energy drinks are a net negative on society as a whole, we can’t deny that Red Bull has used its profits for some fun stuff. Discovery series Red Bull Soapbox Race takes the old-school homemade motorless car project and amps it up like crazy, with teams from all around the world crafting bizarre vehicles that can handle surprisingly difficult downhill courses.

  • Host: Dale Earnhart Jr.

  • Genre: Competition

  • Rating: TV-PG

  • IMDb Rating: 6.3/10
