Huawei’s Chairman of the Consumer BG Yu Chengdong announced on Chinese social platform Weibo that the “strongest Mate in history” will be revealed in November, as the Chinese tech giant gears up to unveil its latest flagship phone. Given a new product launch is generally expected to improve upon what’s gone before, social media users have largely viewed Yu’s comments as meaningless, prompting teasing responses. “Right now, you are the youngest you’ve ever been,” someone joked in the comments section of the Chinese media outlet IThome. Recently, one netizen posted images claiming that Huawei Mate 70 smartphones have already arrived at offline distributors, but that no one dares to unbox them due to a supposed fine of at least RMB 500,000 ($70,370) for unauthorized early unboxing. Huawei has not yet responded to this matter. [IThome, in Chinese]
