A Ceva Logistics trailer was parked and left unattended in an unsecured lot, which led to the theft of the trailer and an alleged $15 million in Apple and AMD merchandise.

Billions in electronics are moved across the land, air, and sea each year, but they’re not always as secure as they should be. One trailer filled with electronics went missing in Reno, Nevada on July 3.

According to a report from Freightwaves, a trailer that allegedly contained $15 million in Apple and AMD products was stolen from an unsecured lot. Police reports didn’t reveal much detail, but an anonymous source filled in the blanks.

The tipster shared that the Ceva Logistics trailer had been dispatched from Sacramento, California to Sierra Airfreight Express in Reno, Nevada. The trailer was left at a lot after hours where there were no guards or fencing, detached from the tractor.

The suspect that stole the trailer drove a tractor onto the lot, hooked it up to the trailer, and drove off. So, perhaps not as much drama as a blockbuster film, but the value of the goods is certainly on par.

The source shared that AMD processors were onboard, as well as Apple products. However, what Apple products, whether they were parts or completed products, wasn’t shared.

The investigation is ongoing, and there hasn’t been any official comment from Ceva Logistics, Apple, or AMD. Police only shared that a manager discovered a company trailer was stolen from the lot and nothing more.

Apple deals with a lot of theft, but usually in Apple Stores or when packages are delivered. A trailer of goods being stolen from an unsecured lot may be an anomaly, but it could spur the company to rethink some of its shipping partners and policies.
