Renault is developing an electric sports utility vehicle built on the newest platform from Geely called the Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA), one of the company’s core technologies that has underpinned the success of its Galaxy lineup, as reported by Chinese media publication AutoPix. The new SUV will have both all-electric and plug-in hybrid versions, and target overseas markets such as Southeast Asia, Central and Latin America, and North Africa, people close to the companies told AutoPix on Monday. The news comes after the two companies announced in February their partnership to produce and sell zero- and low-emission vehicles in Brazil. The EX5, the overseas version of Geely’s Galaxy E5 SUV, will be the first model introduced to Brazil through the collaboration, AutoPix said. Hong Kong-listed Geely Auto reported deliveries of more than 1.4 million cars in the first half of this year, of which more than a third cars sold were from the Galaxy lineup.
