Most notably was the end of her 10-year marriage to husband Jon and the complete breakdown of her relationship with one of her children, Collin.
But a third strained relationship – the one she shares with her brother, Kevin and his wife Jodi – seems to have at least been cleared.
Kate returned on social media this week for the first time in months, signing up to TikTok to reveal a new look as she spent time by a lake.
When a fan asked her on TikTok: “Have you reconciled with your brother Kevin and sister-in-law Jodi?” Kate simply responded “Yep!” with a love heart.
Kevin and Kate’s relationship initially became strained when he spoke against his sister publicly following the success of her reality shows.
In 2010, he admitted fears that filming the show could have a negative psychological impact on Kate’s eight children.
At a public hearing surrounding child labor laws in relation to reality TV, Kevin told Pennsylvania State Representative Tom Murt that he staged scenes – including faking a Christmas Day so it could be filmed, could have a “psychological impact”.
He also voiced concerns about the children’s privacy after they were filmed being potty trained, and said his relationship with his sister was “strained”.
While Kevin and Kate may have since made up – particularly after the death of their father, Kenton, in 2021 – some relationships seem to be irredeemable.
Last week, Collin, one of Kate and ex-husband Jon’s sextuplets, admitted to missing his family, posting a TikTok reflecting on what “could have been”.
The 21-year-old shot to fame as a child alongside siblings Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Leah, and Joel, and twins Cara and Madelyn, both 24.
When Jon and Kate divorced, she was given full custody of all eight children.
But in 2018, Jon was granted sole custody of his son, three years after Collin was sent to Fairmount Behavioral Health Institute – a residential program for kids with behavioral needs – without his knowledge.
Speaking to The US Sun last year, Collin said he believes he never had any behavioral issues or psychiatric conditions, sharing private medical records with us to back his claim up.
He also accused his mother of taking out her anger about her failing marriage on him – alleging he would be isolated from his siblings, and on some occasions have his hands and feet zip-tied and be locked in a specially-built basement room that contained only a bed and cameras to watch him for a whole day or part of a day.
Collin’s claims were supported by dad Jon Gosselin, who said the alleged abuse took place after he and Kate divorced and he moved out of their home in Pennsylvania.
Shortly after custody of Collin was granted to Jon, Hannah also moved in with her father, who also supported her brothers allegations in an interview for Vice’s ‘The Dark Side of the 2000s’ documentary, which aired in 2023.
The family have been split ever since, with Collin losing contact with his remaining six siblings and mom.
