Screen and design: from the same to the same
In terms of global design and display, Google has Almost not changed his recipe. The Pixel 10 chassis is almost identical to that of its predecessor, so much so that it is difficult to differentiate between the two models. Those who were waiting for an aesthetic revolution will therefore remain hungry.
It also has the same oled actu Display 6.3 -inch slab, still in Full HD+ (1080 × 2424) with a density of 422 ppi and a fluid refresh rate of 60 to 120 Hz. The coating is also identical, with protection from Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The only real difference concerns the maximum brightness : she goes from 1,800 to 2,000 nitswhich should not make a huge difference in use.
SOC: A real rise
The first substantial change is at the processor: the G4 Tensor chip is replaced by a whole new Tensor G5 engraved in 3 nm by TSMC.
The latter brings a Substantial performance gain : all benchmarks mention two -digit gains In all categories, with up to +13 % in single and up to +43 % in multi-core depending on the sources. Enough to make a real difference on demanding applications, to the delight of mobile players.
A slew of new IA features
This gross power gain also contributes to fuel the new features IA introduced with this 10th generation. Google has for example concocted an impressive system that allows calls to be translated into another language, in real time. You can also cite Camera Coach, a feature that guides the user to allow him to take perfect photos with clear instructions adapted to the environment and the context.
In parallel, Google also introduced a brand new AI assistant capable of interacting with all the software ecosystem of Google, from Gmail to Google Maps via YouTube. It is designed to assimilate user habits in order to evolve over time, and thus offer more and more relevant contextual suggestions in all Google applications.
Photo: Finally a telephoto time … But at what Price?
The photo block of this basic model is entitled to a great novelty: for the first time, it has a triple photo module which includes a 10.8 megapixel phone target With 5x optical zoom. So far, the latter was reserved for models in the Pro range.
Unfortunately, this novelty is also accompanied by a regrettable regression on the other two objectives. The main large-angle sensor goes from 50 to 48 Mpx… and the ultra-large-angle loses 75 % of its capacities squarely, passing from 48 to 12 mpx. A fairly dismaying sacrificeand potentially unacceptable – unless Google image processing algorithms manage to compensate.
Greater autonomy
Google has chosen to increase the battery size of its basic model, which goes from 4,700 mAh to 4,970 mAh. But this is not the only factor to take into account: the new Tensor G5 chip offers greater energy efficiency than that of the old model. Put on end to end, these two elements should offer a gain in autonomy not necessarily revolutionary, but all the same substantial – an appreciable point, knowing that the last generations of pixels still accused a certain delay on competition at this level.
Connectors: Wi-Fi 7 sacrificed
The Pixel 10 retains the vast majority of the connectic elements of its predecessor, but with two notable differences: an evolution of the Bluetooth standard, which goes from version 5.3 to 6 … and a regression of the Wi-Fi chip. Indeed, the basic model will now be deprived of Wi-Fi 7 from which the basic pixel 9 benefited, and will have to be satisfied with Wi-Fi 6e.
Admittedly, this should not make a huge difference in practice, since Wi-Fi 7 is still far from being democratized-but it is still a backward as disconcerting as regrettable.
Conclusion
In the end, it is quite difficult to consider that the basic version of Pixel 10 a huge added value compared to the old model. Admittedly, the Tensor G5 chip, the new AI features as well as the arrival of a telephoto lens are appreciable-but the regresses observed in the photo block and the Wi-Fi chip limit these advantages.
If you already have a pixel 9, investment in the new model may be difficult to justifyespecially since the launch price did not move an iota (€ 899 for the 128 GB version and € 999 for the 256 GB version). Everything will depend on your interest in the new features IA introduced by the brand.
