A viral notice claimed that Roblox would permanently shut down on September 1st, citing safety concerns and the platform’s high demand for closure.

This comes at a time when Roblox is facing legal scrutiny and international bans.

What are the rumors surrounding Roblox’s shutdown?

The official-looking announcement has rapidly spread on X, however, it was not announced by an official Roblox account.

The official announcement further stated: “While this was not an easy choice, we believe it is in the best interest of our community.

“We want to thank everyone who has been part of this journey. Your voices have been heard, and your well-being remains our top priority.”

Although the post suggests that the platform will be unavailable as of September 1, Roblox has not provided official confirmation or clarity through its channels.

This, however, has not been the first time such rumors have surfaced on social media. A similar situation happened in 2022.

But back in 2022, Roblox came out and denied the shutting down rumors, calling them a hoax, and reassured users that the game isn’t going anywhere.

However, the lack of denial or immediate confirmation from official sources regarding the truth of such rumors is quite unusual, leaving players to await an official statement.

Are there any controversies around Roblox?

There are controversies surrounding the game center, particularly regarding its policies and safety.

There have been calls for the Roblox CEO to resign, and a drop in the share price of Roblox has heightened fans’ concerns that this news could be accurate.

Roblox has recently faced a lawsuit by the state of Louisiana, on the grounds of its failure to protect young people from inappropriate content like Escape to Epstein Island and Diddy party, which has been cited as explicit content which was accessible to minors.

Such controversies have taken a significant toll on Roblox, which was not an isolated incident, and countries have banned the platform, for example, Turkey, China and Oman.

Also, Qatar recently banned it on the grounds of rising concern for child safety.

Critics have implied that due to the rapid growth of Roblox, the company has been outpaced in introducing safety measures in the game.

Although they have introduced Roblox AI monitoring, many believe this measure is not preventative but merely reactive.

All of this had led to a boycott of the game with “#BoycottTheHatch” circulating on the internet.
