Samsung’s Portable SSD T7 remains one of the most practical external drives you can buy. Now at $179.99, which is a 27% off, it delivers solid performance, a durable aluminum chassis, and strong 256-bit AES hardware encryption. While it skips the biometric fingerprint reader found on the pricier T7 Touch, it keeps the slim design and competitive speed, making it a reliable everyday storage option for work, travel, or entertainment.

The T7 is about the size of a credit card, measuring 0.3 by 3.3 by 2.2 inches and weighing just 2 ounces. Available in gray, blue, or red, it feels sleek and sturdy, with drop resistance up to 6.5 feet. A single USB-C port handles data transfer, and Samsung includes both USB-C to C and USB-C to USB-A cables for broad compatibility with desktops, laptops, and mobile devices.

Setup is simple: the drive comes preformatted in exFAT, ready for Windows, macOS, and Android. To enable password protection, you’ll need Samsung’s companion software, which also manages firmware updates. Encryption is hardware-based, ensuring your files stay secure without slowing performance. That’s the reason it earned an “Excellent” rating in our Samsung Portable SSD T7 review from 2020.

Rated at 1,050MBps read and 1,000MBps write, the T7 sits in line with most USB 3.2 Gen 2 SSDs. In PCMag’s tests, it reached 958MBps on reads and 921MBps on writes, close to its advertised speeds and competitive against rivals like the Crucial X8 and SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD.

Recommended by Our Editors

A built-in phase-change thermal layer keeps heat under control during heavy transfers, and the three-year warranty, while shorter than some competitors, provides peace of mind. As our expert, Tony Hoffman, summed it up, “Samsung’s Portable SSD T7 is a crowd-pleasing, compact external drive with strong security and a rough-and-tumble aluminum chassis.” If you want a balance of portability, speed, and security at a fair price, the T7 is an excellent buy.

About Shubham Yewale

Shubham Yewale

I have been working as a content writer for over six years, specializing in consumer technology. Throughout my career, I have explored various areas within this niche, including cybersecurity, entertainment apps, and software products. Prior to becoming a content writer, I worked as a graphic designer. This background has been beneficial, particularly when writing how-to articles on photo editing for MakeUseOf.com. Additionally, I have contributed as an entertainment writer for Beebom.com and a cybersecurity writer for VPNCentral.com.

I excel at grasping complex concepts and presenting them in a straightforward manner, which is why many of my successful articles focus on how-tos and reviews. Outside of work, I enjoy watching movies and series, as well as reading books that offer compelling stories. I also have a passion for writing poems.

My Areas of Expertise

Photo Editing: I have been using Photoshop since childhood and find joy in editing pictures for fun.

Walkthroughs: I specialize in crafting how-to guides for various technology-related topics, from troubleshooting PC issues to enhancing images in Photoshop. The possibilities are endless.

Cybersecurity: Through my articles, I have assisted hundreds of individuals in recognizing scams by helping them identify fraudulent websites, messages, and calls. (Although I must admit, I do occasionally torrent.)

Technology I Use

I primarily work on an Asus Vivobook 15 with Windows 11, version 24H2. For my smartphone, I use a Samsung M30s because I prefer Android devices. I also enjoy reading on my Kindle and listening to music with my boAt Rockerz 255 Pro+ earbuds, which I sometimes use as earplugs to create a quiet workspace.
