In a recent APK teardown of Google Maps version 25.34.00.796159725, the folks over at Android Authority have uncovered a handy new feature located within the “You” tab of the app’s interface. Known as “Your recent places,” this new Google Maps section is set to provide quick access to locations on the map that you’ve recently traveled to or that you’ve saved for future reference.
Recently traveled locations are presented in list format, with a set of filters for quick sorting by Area, Category, Saved, and Maps history. Each list entry provides the name of the location or establishment, along with a brief description and how many days ago it was that you traveled there. Each location is also flanked by a quick Bookmark icon for saving it to a manually created list, alongside an ellipsis (three-dot) menu that allows you to share the location, dive deeper into your Maps history, or delete history altogether.
It should be noted that Google hasn’t officially acknowledged the new recent locations feature, nor has it provided a rollout date. In typical Google fashion, I’d expect the handy addition to make its way to users slowly over the course of several weeks. There’s also no word on whether the feature will make its way to iOS, iPadOS, and the web-based desktop versions of Google Maps, or if it’ll remain exclusive to Android for the foreseeable future.

Quick access to recent places is long overdue
The Google Maps feature I’ve always wanted is finally rolling out
Personally, I can’t wait for the new “Your recent places” section to hit my phone’s Google Maps app. There are several locations that I travel between on a semi-regular basis, but it has always been a pain to dig deeper into the app’s interface to scroll through previous locations. Oftentimes, I find myself simply relying on the list of recent search queries that appear whenever I tap on the main search field at the top of the screen, but doing so isn’t always the most efficient or reliable method.
On my Pixel 9 Pro, which is running the latest version 25.34.00.796159725 of the Google Maps app, the new location feature hasn’t yet appeared within my You tab. There might be a server-side element at play here, or Google might be waiting to green light the change via the app’s next Play Store software update. In any case, I’m giddy for this small-yet-useful quality of life addition to streamline my digital mapping experience once and for all, and my fingers are crossed for day-and-date release parity across all platforms and instances of Maps.
