Google LLC is updating its artificial intelligence-enabled video app Google Vids to make it more accessible and powerful for teams to generate and edit video content.
New features include an image-to-video experience powered by Veo 3, Google’s state-of-the-art video generation model capable of producing audio alongside video. With this model, users can provide prompts to generate background sounds like restaurant conversations, birdsong, city traffic, or character dialogue. It can also produce rich, creative narrative visuals to accompany the sound design.
“Teams can transform their photos into dynamic eight-second video clips with sound,” said Google. “This means you can upload a product shot, or company stock photography, and use a text prompt to create animated video clips with native audio that are aligned with your brand.”
In addition to introducing this new feature, Google has also announced the general availability of AI avatars designed to assist teams in creating video content that effectively conveys information. These avatars are photorealistic human headshots that can deliver scripted messages.
Starting today, teams can easily write a script and choose from various avatars to deliver a message using Vids.
Google recently released noise cancellation, backgrounds, filters and appearance options, just as are available in Google Meet. To make users sound even better using Vids, Google has announced a feature called “transcript trim,” which removes filler words and awkward pauses using AI with just a few clicks, such as “ums” and “ahs,” without tedious editing.
Finally, the company is previewing an upcoming addition to Vids that will allow users to select different sizes and formats for videos. Teams will be able to create Vids in portrait, landscape and square formats.
Google is launching a series called “Vids on Vids” to provide users with instructions on how to use the app, showcasing all the new features and more.
The series covers a typical video workflow, such as how to use Vids recording studio, how to plan the video story using AI, and how to employ animations and transitions to keep viewers engaged.
Google also announced that for the first time ever, the basic Vids editor, without Gemini capabilities, will now be available for all consumers at no cost. The AI-powered Vids editor will be available to subscribers of Business or Enterprise Starter, Google AI Pro or Ultra, and Workplace for Education customers.
