SAMSUNG has pulled the rug from under Apple’s feet by announcing a new budget smartphone just days before a new iPhone is expected.

The South Korean tech giant’s latest Galaxy S25 model has some of the top Android features around starting at £649.

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 FE handset also blurs the lines between the main S25 mobile, carrying over many of the best bits including AI tools.

Among the upgrades is an improved front facing camera for better selfies and a low noise mode that boosts the quality of night shots.

The battery has also been increased – coming in bigger than any of the high-end S25 models.

Samsung claims this will give you all-day battery life.

And the bar has been raised on charging speeds too, supporting 45W wired charging – faster than the base Galaxy S25.

“Galaxy S25 FE plays an important role as a gateway into the broader Galaxy AI ecosystem, making these experiences more attainable for a wider range of users,” said Jay Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience Office, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics.

“With expanded personalised AI experiences and AI-powered photography and editing tools, Galaxy S25 FE empowers more people to bring greater convenience and creativity into their everyday lives.”

The Galaxy S25 FE will be shipped with Samsung’s newest Android system, One UI 8.

Gemini Live is among the features users will be able access on the S25 FE, which lets you have real-time visual conversations, from asking about outfit choices to help with fixing your bike.

Samsung’s Now Bar is included, which pops up helpful information at just the right moment, right from the lock screen.

And the Now Brief provides personalised daily updates including traffic, reminders, calendar events, and fitness summaries.

Samsung has pledged to offer seven generations of Android upgrades and seven years of security updates too.

It’ll be available in three colours:

  • Icyblue
  • Jetblack, Navy
  • White

The display is 6.7-inches wide and it’s housed in an aluminium frame.

Prices start at £649 for the 128GB option, while the 256GB is £699 and the 512GB is £799.

Samsung is also giving six months of Google AI Pro for free with every purchase.

FIRST THOUGHTS?

By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun

I managed to get hands-on with the new Galaxy S25 FE before launch and my initial thoughts are good.

I’d even go as far to say, why would anyone even bother buying the base Galaxy S25 now?

Much of what you want and need is right here on the FE version for a much more attractive price tag.

And with Samsung’s commitment to seven OS upgrades and seven years of security updates, you can get some real value for money out of this.

I’ll have a full review on the Galaxy S25 FE soon.
