Two years after the launch of the 4.5-star QuietComfort Ultra headphones, Bose has unveiled its updated second gen model.
The new Bose QuietComfort Ultra 2nd Gen headphones promise to retain the hallmarks of the QuietComfort line, which are usually found in our best headphones lists, while introducing “meaningful enhancements” and brand new features.
To begin, Bose states that the QuietComfort Ultra 2nd Gen has an updated algorithm which improves the headphone’s ActiveSense experience, enabling smoother changes in noise cancellation levels.
There’s also improved on-head detection, which will automatically connect and start-up to nearby paired source devices. Once you’ve finished listening, you can either lay the headphones flat or fold them into a carry case where they’ll enter a low power standby mode which Bose claims can last for months.
Speaking of battery, the QuietComfort Ultra 2nd Gen promises to last for up to 30 hours with typical use, although this drops to 23 hours with immersive audio enabled.
What’s new?
Alongside enhancements, the QuietComfort Ultra 2nd Gen also boasts some exclusive features too, such as Cinema Mode and lossless listening support. With the former, audio from video content is said to feel more lifelike, with clearer dialogue and an overall more immersive soundscape.
However, although Cinema Mode was originally intended to support video content, it’s worth noting that Bose promises podcasts and audiobooks are supported too, so you can expect a crisp and clear dialogue.
Finally, the QuietComfort Ultra 2nd Gens also support USB-C audio for lossless listening, which, consequently, unlocks new ways to use the headphones, for example when you’re gaming on a desktop or mobile device.
Bose QuietComfort Ultra 2nd Gen price and release date
The Bose QuietComfort Ultra 2nd Gens are scheduled to launch on September 10, with an RRP of £449. The headphones will also be available in a choice of four colours: Black, White Smoke, Driftwood Sand and Midnight Violet.
