I love it when I see an idea that makes me wonder why no one has already done it. That’s exactly what Artronic’s Komutr MagSafe earbuds are—the world’s first proper MagSafe earbuds.

It solves that basic problem that we’ve all encountered at one point or another: where did I put my earbuds, and why can’t I find them now that I’m in a rush?

Instead, with the Komutr earbuds, the case is always with you, and can actually help to keep your phone charged, too.

Never lose your earbuds again

Artronic’s Komutr earbuds are the resolution to one of life’s modern problems. Yet it really is surprising that this is the first proper implementation of MagSafe earbuds. It seems like such a natural pairing.

In that, the Komutr buds do exactly what you’d think: use the MagSafe magnet to attach to the back of your iPhone (or an Android device with a magnetic case). Once attached, they’re really not going anywhere, just like any other MagSafe product.

I was a little surprised by the hardware specs of the Komutr. They’re certainly not a gimmicky piece of hardware, but I was expecting the limitations of the MagSafe-focused design to force Artronic’s hand. In some ways, it has, but we’ll get to that in a moment.

The earbuds themselves are ultra lightweight, weighing a mere 3.96g each. When you take them out of the case, it almost feels like they’re missing components. Modern earbuds aren’t exactly heavy anyway, but these ones are some of the lightest I’ve ever used.

Powering the earbuds is a decent 8mm driver, which, considering the size and lightweight design, actually produces a really decent sound. It won’t be winning any awards for sound design, but as said, it’s good.

The earbuds have up to 8 hours of battery life with ANC switched on, which again, is really good considering the size of the buds. The case battery has another 800mAh, which will give you another 30 hours of playback on the go. It also charges fast, too. You can get up to 80 percent charge in just 20 minutes via USB-C, meaning you’ll never really run out of battery. Oh, and they support wireless charging.

Another feature I was impressed with is the Komutr companion app. It’s really well fleshed out, with support for custom EQs, ANC toggling, and so on. You can also use it to receive OTA updates. But get this: it also supports Apple’s Find My, so even if you do somehow misplace them, you have an easy way to find them again. It’s the features like this that show why Komutr is a product that will only grow with time.

The Komutr case also doubles up as a handy kickstand on the back of your device, which is pretty cool. When I was testing the Komutr at IFA 2025, it felt sturdy and well-built.

It doesn’t charge your iPhone, but some great colors are set to launch

Now, onto the grizzly bits. MagSafe isn’t a two-way technology, so your earbuds don’t receive a charge from your iPhone. But the Komutr case doesn’t double up as a charging unit for your iPhone, either.

It’s definitely a feature I’d like to see in the future, or at least some form of pass-through charging via USB-C. Either one would be great and turn these super handy MagSafe earbuds into a really killer product.

The other upgrade I’d like to see in a future model is a slightly more elegant case. It’s remarkably slim and fits the profile of other MagSafe products, but a little more style would be great to see.

However, on that last point, I have some good news. Fabien Gaussorgues, CEO of Artronic Designs, confirmed to me at IFA 2025 that the company is developing colours to match your iPhone cases. I’ve snapped a few of the prototypes, but Artronic is understandably waiting for Apple’s iPhone 17 colors before manufacturing.

At the time of writing, you can get in early on the action with Artronic’s Komutr Kickstarter; you can get 50 bucks off the final price of $149.
