The long-in-development web-based user interface for the Anaconda installer used by Fedora (and Red Hat Enterprise Linux) continues maturing well and expanding its usage before eventually seeing the Anaconda GTK-based UI deprecated in the future.

While there were delays in rolling out the Anaconda Web UI on Fedora, with Fedora 42 it’s been working out very well. Fedora Workstation 42 supports the Anaconda WebUI for carrying out new Fedora Linux installations. With the upcoming Fedora 43 release the Fedora Spins and Fedora KDE edition are also approved to use the Anaconda WebUI. The Fedora / Red Hat Anaconda team put out a progress update and roadmap update today on the Fedora Community Blog.

Fedora 42 Anaconda WebUI installer

Further out past the Fedora 43 plans, for Fedora 44 next year the hope is shipping the Anaconda WebUI for uBlue, Atomic Desktops, and remote browser support. With Fedora 45 in just over one year from now the hope is that it will be ready to use the web UI for installs on Fedora Server.

At some point after Fedora 45 is when the developers will be looking at deprecating Anaconda’s GTK user interface in favor of only using the modern web-based user interface.

More details on this Anaconda WebUI roadmap update via the Fedora Community Blog.
