Apple’s latest Pro iPhones are a genuine design shake-up
The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max buck the iPhone’s tired design language
Design wise, the torrent of pre-keynote leaks proved accurate. Both the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max offer a new aluminum unibody design with a rear-facing cutout, in addition to a new bar-style camera plateau. A new Ceramic Shield 2 glass formulation provides improved scratch resistance, while the proprietary alloy of the metal is designed for improved thermal efficiency, rigidity, and lightness.
As for the new full-width camera bar, it’s not just for looks: according to Apple, it provides additional internal space for more battery capacity, it helps in the heat dissipation process, and it integrates the antenna system around its plateau for improved signal reception.
The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are available now for pre-order, with a shipping date of September 19. The standard-sized 17 Pro starts at $1,100, while the plus-sized 17 Pro Max is listed at a base price of $1,200. Colorways include silver, deep blue, and cosmic orange. All Pro models start at 256GB of storage, and the Pro Max is available in a 2TB configuration for the very first time. Notably, there’s no longer a $1000 base iPhone Pro configuration with 128GB of storage capacity on offer with the 17 Pro series.
