The Rust-based open-source operating system project Redox OS published a blog post today outlining their development priorities for the remainder of 2025 and then onward to 2026.
Over the course of the next year they are planning to focus more on Redox OS variants, including “Hosted Redox” for use as the operating system within virtual machines (VMs), “Redox Server” for edge and cloud server deployments, and “Redox Desktop” as the daily driver OS.
Some of the Redox development priorities will be focused on being able to build Redox on Redox itself, better software compatibility, expanding programming language and build system support, enhancing security, and furthering the performance of the operating system.
Redox OS also has more to do around expanding hardware support. Plus for desktop ambitions there are more plans around the COSMIC desktop as well as Wayland and broader GPU acceleration.
Those wanting to learn more about the grand plans for Redox OS development efforts over roughly the next year can find all their ambitions via this blog post.
