YOU’VE got loads of videos on your iPhone just waiting to be discovered.

There’s a clever trick that many iPhone owners don’t realise exists – and it’ll let you unlock secret videos you’d totally missed.

Live Photos can animate like videos – but there’s an even better trick to tryCredit: Apple

It works using Apple’s Live Photos feature, but it’s not just ‘tapping’ the image to make it play.

It’s far more useful than that.

But first, it’s worth recapping what Live Photos do normally.

It’s an Apple feature that’s been around on your iPhone camera for years.

When you snap a Live Photo with your iPhone camera, it records the 1.5 seconds before and after you hit the shutter button.

Then you can go into your Photos app and press on the photo, and it’ll play like a short video.

And it also allows you to choose a different “key photo” if you want to.

That way, you can get the moment without someone blinking in a group shot, for instance.

These Live Photos also record audio as well as video. Turn your volume up and you’ll be able to hear sound.

But there’s a clever Live Photos perk lots of people miss.

If you’ve snapped lots of Live Photos in a row, you can actually turn them into one long video.

Just go into your Photos app and select multiple images.

Then tap on the menu button and choose the option to save them as a video.

You’ll be able to get a full video showing a sequence of several Live Photos.

HOW TO TAKE LIVE PHOTOS

If you don’t know how to take Live Photos, here’s what to do.

Just open your camera app and then tap on the Live Photo button in the top-right.

The icon is several concentric circles. It should turn yellow when it’s active.

LIVE PHOTO EFFECTS

You can also add effects to Live Photos…

Here’s how to do it…

Open up your Live Photo.

Then tap on the Live Photos button near the top of the screen.

Next, choose an option – like Loop, Bounce, or Long Exposure.

Here’s how Apple describes each:

Loop: Turn a Live Photo you love into a video loop. Choose an image yourself, or look in the For You tab to see photos that would make great loops.

Bounce: Make your Live Photo rock back and forth. Watch your Live Photo as it happened, then it instantly plays in reverse.

Long Exposure: Capture the elements of time and movement. Create a beautiful effect that used to be possible only with a DSLR camera. Fireworks become bright streaks across the night sky. A waterfall becomes a magical blur.

Then simply hold your phone still and snap a pic.

You can turn Live Photos whenever you want. And you can convert a Live Photo to a still if you’d prefer.

WhatsApp recently added support for Live Photos, so you can send them to pals. It’s still in testing phase, so you might not see it on your device.

But you can also send Live Photos over AirDrop or iMessage.
