After Apple announced its latest Watch series, which is headed up by the premium Watch Ultra 3, we’re keen to see what’s included with the wearable.

We explain everything you need to know about the Apple Watch Ultra 3, from its price and release date to its design and key features below.

Not sure if the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is the right wearable for you? Our Apple Watch Series 11 hub explains everything you need to know about the mid-range option, while our Apple Watch Series 11 vs Watch SE 3 comparison shows what’s different with the more affordable model.

Apple Watch Ultra 3 Summary

  • Runs on the same S10 chip as the Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 2
  • Built-in satellite connectivity
  • 5G support
  • Has the largest display ever found on an Apple Watch
  • Up to 72-hours of battery life (when in Low Power Mode)
  • Fast charge support
  • 10ATM and IP6X rated
  • Hypertension notifications and Sleep Score

Apple Watch Ultra 3 Price and Availability

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is currently available for pre-order, ready for its official launch alongside the iPhone 17 series on September 19.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, with a starting price of £749/$799, it’s the most expensive of the Apple Watch series.

Apple Watch Ultra 3 Design and Screen

The Apple Watch Ultra boasts the acclaim of having the largest screen of any Apple Watch ever, thanks to its wide-angle OLEDs and LTPO3, which enables the display borders to be 24% thinner. This means its active screen area is increased without there being a larger case size.

Speaking of the display, Apple promises the Watch Ultra 3’s sapphire crystal coating should offer exceptional durability and scratch resistance.

Otherwise, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is also fitted with a customisable Action button, much like the one found in its Ultra predecessors, a Digital Crown, and support for double-tap and wrist gestures too.

If scuba diving or water sports are your activity of choice, then the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is a brilliant choice. Not only does it sport a 10ATM rating, which means it’s water resistant in up to 100m, but it’s also IP6X and EN13319 certified for recreational scuba diving to 40m.

Finally, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is available in either natural or black titanium, with the option for users to choose from a collection of bands, including a Trail Loop design and even from the Hermes collection.

Apple Watch Ultra 3 Features and Specs

Much like the Apple Watch Series 11, the Watch Ultra 3 supports 5G connectivity, which promises to offer better cellular performance. Apple also promises that the Ultra 3 is fitted with an advanced algorithm that engages the two system antennas to increase the signal strength.

Apple also announced that the Watch Ultra 3 is the first to support satellite connectivity, which enables users to text emergency services, message friends or family and share their location even when they don’t have network coverage.

In addition, the Ultra 3 can also detect if a user is unresponsive after a hard fall or car accident and will then automatically send information to emergency services and their emergency contacts. This, Apple says, is alongside the existing Crash and Fall Detection services.

All satellite communication tools are free for two years with the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and, at the time of writing, Apple has yet to share how much it will eventually cost.

Otherwise, you can expect much of the usual Apple Watch features including an ECG app, Workout Buddy and Sleep Tracking to name a few. However, Apple also announced that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 (alongside the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Apple Watch Series 9 and above) will see the inclusion of Hypertension notifications and Sleep Score.

Hypertension notifications are designed to alert users to signs of chronic high blood pressure while Sleep Score is akin to the likes of Garmin and Fitbit’s own tool which analyses how well you slept and presents you with a score.

While the Apple Watch Ultra 3 won’t see you through a week-long hike without needing a top-up, it does boast a longer battery life compared to its predecessor, promising up to 42-hours or 72-hours in Low Battery Mode.

It’s worth mentioning that despite having a more expensive price tag than its counterparts, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 runs on the same S10 chip as the Apple Watch Series 11 and SE 3, plus it was found in last year’s Apple Watch Series 10. With this in mind, if you’re moving from the Apple Watch Series 10 then you won’t likely see a huge boost in performance.
