Summary
- Amazon is hosting its fall hardware event on September 30, where it’s expected to announce lots of new devices.
- Reportedly, Amazon could be launching a Kindle Scribe Color at the event.
- The Kindle Scribe Color is rumored to be similar in design to the second-generation Kindle Scribe released last year, but with an E Ink color display.
In two weeks, Amazon will host its fall hardware event on September 30, where the e-commerce giant is widely expected to launch several new products, including new Echo smart speakers, Fire TV devices, and most exciting of all, possibly new Kindles.
Amazon included a small teaser image in the media invitation for the event, revealing a glimpse of what could be a new Kindle in the bottom right corner. The image shows a Kindle device with a person reading under a tree on the screen, and it’s in color, hinting that the model will have a color E Ink display. You can check out the image below.
Of course, the burning question is, what kind of color Kindle could Amazon be releasing? According to Good E Reader, which cites the beliefs of “industry insiders,” Amazon is likely to announce the Kindle Scribe Color at its event on September 30.
Amazon launched its second-generation Kindle Scribe last year, its premium note-taking tablet, and given the increased competition in the space from companies like Boox and Remarkable, a new Kindle Scribe Color doesn’t seem too far-fetched.

What could the Kindle Scribe Color look like?
It might share many similarities with the latest Kindle Scribe
If Amazon announces a Kindle Scribe Color at its fall hardware event on September 30, according to Good E Reader, it will largely resemble the second-generation Kindle Scribe that Amazon released last year, with a couple of differences to help differentiate it, such as being offered in a different color. The Kindle Scribe is currently available in tungsten and metallic jade.
Spec-wise, it’s expected to feature a 10.2-inch glare-free color display, matching the second-generation Kindle Scribe in size. It’s also expected to have a black-and-white pixel resolution of 1860 x 2480 with 300 PPI (pixels per inch), and a color resolution of 150 PPI, which is the same as the Kindle Colorsoft.
If Amazon releases a Kindle Scribe Color, it could be significantly better for reading comics, graphic novels, travel guides, magazines, and more due to its larger screen. The Kindle Colorsoft has a 7.2-inch screen, which isn’t bad, but I believe comic books and magazines would be much easier to read on a 10.2-inch color display. Even textbooks and PDFs will look much better than on the current Kindle Scribe, thanks to the splash of color a Kindle Scribe Color would provide.
The last time Amazon updated its entire Kindle lineup was in October 2024, so I’m curious to see if it will announce a refresh of its basic Kindle or the Kindle Paperwhite at this event as well.
Amazon releasing a Kindle Scribe Color in two weeks does make a lot of sense to me. There is growing competition in the premium notebook space. Boox has the Note Air4 C as well as the Tab X C, and Remarkable has the Remarkable Paper Pro and its latest Paper Pro Move. If Amazon released a Kindle Scribe Color that undercuts both of these, it could attract a lot of attention. Good E Reader believes Amazon could price the Kindle Scribe Color a bit higher than the Kindle Scribe, but not by a wide margin. Amazon currently sells the second-generation Kindle Scribe with 16GB of storage for $400, so I could see a Kindle Scribe Color falling in the $400-500 price range.
Besides a new Kindle Color Scribe potentially coming on September 30, it’s also rumored that Amazon could be releasing a 6-inch color Kindle. A mysterious color Kindle model did leak last month, but it’s unclear whether that was legit or not. It seems the Kindle Scribe Color is much more likely to appear, and a 6-inch color Kindle is a big if, but not out of the question.
The last time Amazon updated its entire Kindle lineup was in October 2024, so I’m curious to see if it will announce a refresh of its basic Kindle or the Kindle Paperwhite at this event as well. The last Kindle device Amazon released was a more affordable Kindle Colorsoft in July. Additionally, as someone who uses a Fire TV Stick 4K Max, I’m very curious to see if Amazon will refresh that too. At least there isn’t much time left to wait, as Amazon’s event is on September 30.
