On Sept 16, China’s National Medical Products Administration approved and released the country’s first industry standard for brain-computer interface (BCI) medical devices, titled Terminology of Medical Devices Using Brain-Computer Interface Technology. The standard, effective January 1, 2026, defines terms and concepts for BCI-based medical equipment, aiming to support the sector’s long-term development. The move follows a policy framework issued in August by seven government departments, which set targets for breakthroughs in key BCI technologies by 2027 and called for building industrial clusters, expanding applications, and creating globally competitive companies by 2030.
