US hyperscaler CoreWeave has announced the next £1.5bn phase of its investment in UK AI data centre capacity.

The New Jersey headquartered company has been investing heavily in UK compute capacity in support of the country’s AI Opportunities Action Plan which laid out plans for international partnerships with the private sector to scale UK AI infrastructure.

CoreWeave’s announcement, revealed during the second state visit to the UK from President Donald Trump, brings the total investment from the firm into British compute infrastructure to £2.5bn, having previously announced a £1bn investment in 2024.

“Our investment in the UK will establish one of the world’s largest concentrations of state-of-the-art, sustainable compute, unlocking new opportunities for innovation, economic growth, and scientific discovery,” said Michael Intrator, co-Founder, chairman and chief executive officer of CoreWeave.

“It allows us to deliver unparalleled AI performance with the lowest possible environmental impact, setting a new global standard. We look forward to collaborating with the UK government and the broader ecosystem to drive the next wave of responsible AI leadership around the world.”

The investment plan will include a partnership with NVIDIA and Data Vita in Scotland to deploy renewable energy-powered NVIDIA Grace Blackwell Ultra GPUs.

“Artificial Intelligence will drive incredible change in our country and has the potential to transform our public services and infrastructure,” said Prime Minister, Keir Starmer.

“This investment by CoreWeave is a clear vote of confidence in Britain’s potential to become a world leader in AI. I’m determined to back innovation and create more highly skilled jobs through partnerships like these, as we deliver on our Plan for Change.”

The announcement is one of a handful of compute infrastructure boosts from US firms revealed this week, including Google’s announced data centre in Hertfordshire, part of a two-year £5bn investment in the UK.
