A select group of Welsh tech startups is being offered a chance to receive rare support from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The Welsh Government and co-working space operator TownSq will fly out the lucky few to the States to visit the world-renowned technology institution later this year.

The trade mission to Boston, Massachusetts, will occur between November 16th and 22nd. And during it, the Welsh tech entrepreneurs will receive support usually given to tech giants like Apple and BT via MIT’s Industrial Liaison Program.

Along with support from esteemed MIT tech experts, the cohort will also get to see everything the MIT campus has to offer as part of a “curated tour”.

Additionally, the participants will attend MIT’s 2025 research and development conference and potentially form long-lasting relationships with Boston’s tech experts and businesses through networking opportunities.

Wales-based tech startups and small and medium-sized businesses have until September 30th to apply for the once-in-a-lifetime trip by emailing [email protected]. There are only a handful of spaces on offer.

TownSq CEO Gareth Jones described the trip as an opportunity for Welsh tech firms to “soak up” the culture of innovation and research offered by MIT, adding that it is an “important step to creating our [Wales’] own national innovation culture”.

He continued to say: “It really can’t be overstated what an opportunity this is. They live and breathe innovation at MIT, it’s simply part of the culture.

“I know from previous trips how much I personally have learned and it’s fantastic to be able to bring some of the brightest Welsh businesses to see what seeds can be sewn, and what opportunities we can develop to grow the innovation culture here in Wales.”
