How to listen to BBC Sounds from anywhere – stream BBC radio outside the U.K.

If you’ve tried to access BBC Sounds – the broadcaster’s dedicated radio, podcast and music app – from anywhere, you may have noticed a problem: it’s now blocked outside the U.K.. Shame.

How to listen to BBC Sounds online in the U.K.

In the U.K., you can access BBC Sounds via the website, or its iOS and Android apps.

Traveling abroad? You might require a VPN – this will unblock your usual streaming service and allow you to watch BBC Sounds from anywhere.

How to access BBC Sounds from anywhere

No. Since Monday, July 21, 2025, BBC Sounds is only available in the United Kingdom, or to U.K. residents on vacation.

What is the highest-rated BBC Sounds show?

The most-played podcasts in the second quarter of 2025 are “Newscast” and “Americast”, which keep audiences up to date with the latest current affairs from the U.K. and U.S. respectively.

Elis James and John Robins’ award-winning series hits the spot with listeners aged under 35, and sits sixth in the most-listened to On-Demand radio programme overall. Radio 4 classics like soap opera The Archers and celebrity interview show “Desert Island Discs” also feature heavily in the On-Demand lists.

BBC Radio 2 remains the U.K.’s number one station with 12.6m listeners, with Vernon Kay’s Saturday weekday late-morning show the most listened-to, with 6.6m tuning.
