Alongside the premium Watch Ultimate 2, Huawei has announced its Watch GT 6 series.

Made up of the more budget-friendly Watch GT 6 and the mid-range Huawei GT 6 Pro, the series promises to offer longer battery life, enhanced features and new tools for certain sports compared to last year’s Watch GT 5 series.

But how should you choose between the two new smartwatches? Do you really need to pay for Pro or is the entry-level model perfectly sufficient?

We’ve highlighted the key differences alongside any noteworthy similarities between the Watch GT 6 and GT 6 Pro below, to help you decide which smartwatch might suit you best. Make sure you also visit our best smartwatches guide to see our top-rated options from the past year.

Price and Availability

Both the Watch GT 6 and Watch GT 6 Pro are available to buy now. The Watch GT 6 is the cheaper of the two, with a starting price of £229.99 for the smaller 41mm model.

The Watch GT 6 Pro, on the other hand, is more in-line with the Apple Watch Series 11 with an RRP of £329.99.

Huawei Watch GT 6 is available in two sizes

While the Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro comes in just one 46mm model, the Watch GT 6 is available with a choice between two. Huawei explains that the larger 46mm-sized Watch GT 6 draws “inspiration from cycling” and is available in three colours including green, brown and black, whereas the 41mm version promises a more snug and comfortable fit “on any wrist”.

The 41mm edition is also available in more colours, including purple, white, black, brown and gold, which makes it seem like a more versatile option compared to the Watch GT 6 Pro which comes with three options: brown, titanium and black.

Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro promises up to 21 days of battery life

Following on from the above, the Huawei Watch GT’s battery life promise depends on the model you opt for. While the 41mm option promises 14-days of battery, which is the same as last year’s Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro, the 46mm model matches the GT 6 Pro with a claim of up to a whopping 21 days of battery life.

This, Huawei explains, is thanks to the Watch 6 series’ advanced high-silicon stacked battery which should deliver 65% higher capacity than the Watch 5 series.

Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro has a larger display

Although the entire Watch GT 6 series is fitted with lots of premium display technologies, the Watch GT 6 Pro benefits from a raised timing bezel which Huawei says delivers a screen that’s not only 5.5% larger than its predecessor but promises to offer a more immersive, vibrant and bright display.

Speaking of brightness, both the smartwatches support a peak brightness of 3000 nits, an improvement from the Watch GT 5 Pro which offers up to just 1200 nits. Otherwise, despite the price discrepancy, the Watch GT 6 and 6 Pro are fitted with a premium Sapphire glass display, much like the premium Apple Watch Ultra 3, for extra durability.

Both support the enhanced TruSense System for tracking

Like the Watch GT 5 series, the Watch GT 6 series is fitted with Huawei’s TruSense System which offers accurate monitoring across metrics like your cardiovascular health, respiratory rate and more. However, the Watch GT 6 series benefits from a few new additions including a HRV metric for real-time assessment of training status, which should improve recovery efficiency.

In addition, Huawei explains the Health Insights tool within the entire Watch GT 6 series sees an upgrade too. This means you can see more of a comprehensive health analysis, thanks to multidimensional data and more advanced algorithms to detect your personal health trends.

Both offer cycling virtual power

The Watch GT 6 series is the first of Huawei’s smartwatches to feature cycling virtual power which essentially promises to provide cyclists with a more precise way to measure their riding intensity.

This tool is alongside enhanced features for sports including trail running, skiing and golf, which promises to allow users a more advanced “outdoor fitness experience”.

Early Verdict

The entire Huawei Watch GT 6 series is fitted with plenty of upgrades from its predecessor, with a longer battery life, enhanced tracking capabilities and entirely new features. However, if you’re deciding between the Watch GT 6 and Watch GT 6 Pro, then the differences here are less significant.

Sure, the Watch GT 6 Pro has a larger display, but both models are still fitted with premium screen technologies. Plus, both the Watch GT 6 and GT 6 Pro offer the same tracking capabilities and Huawei’s Sunflower Positioning System for better GPS. Plus, although the 41mm GT 6 only offers up to 14 days of battery life, the 46mm matches the GT 6 Pro’s promise of up to 21 days.

We will, however, update this versus with a more conclusive verdict once we’ve reviewed both smartwatches.
