Microsoft has announced the Construction of what will be the most powerful AI data center in the worldwithin the framework of Fairwater project. The center, located in Wisconsin (United States), in the town of Mount pleasant. The facilities are under construction at this time, and the data center is expected to enter into operation at the beginning of 2026.
In principle, the company invested 3.3 billion dollars, but according to Microsoft president Brad Smith, they will invest another 4,000 million dollars in the construction of a second center, similar to what they are already finishing preparing, at the same point. Microsoft facilities servers in Mount pleasant will be responsible for managing next -generation AI models.
This data center, which will house the latest in CPUS and several hundred thousand interconnected NVIDIA GPUS, will have more than 90% of its facilities with a liquid cooling system, with water, in a closed circuit filled during the construction of the facilities and constantly recirculated. The part of the facilities that do not use this system will have air cooling, and will change only to liquid during the days of greater heat. It is estimated that it will be the second largest cooling floor in the world.
Each of the data center racks will work as a giant accelerator, and will be able to process up to 865,000 tokens per second. Its connection networks, ultra -grape, use NVLink, NVSWITCH, INFINIBAND and ETHERNET of the latest generation, with the aim of connecting the thousands of servers processors and minimizing latency.
In the construction of the center that is currently under development, 3,000 employees have come to work in its peak, and once they are operational, those of Redmond hope to hire to work in it full time 500 people, who will rise to 800 when the second data center enters into operation.
The calculation capacity of the complete center, when it is in operation, will multiply by ten the fastest supercomputer performance in the world at the moment. In total, when all its facilities are finished, the complex will occupy approximately 127 hectares of land, and will have more than 110,000 square meters built.
