OpenAI is about to launch a series of ChatGPT ads, airing on primetime TV, streaming, and social media – with the first video being broadcast later today during NFL Primetime.
The latest move adds further pressure on Apple by highlighting the vast gulf between the current capabilities of Siri and generative AI chatbots like ChatGPT …
MarketingWeek reports that the focus of the ads will be on how ChatGPT can help you in your everyday life.
OpenAI wants to emphasise how people are using ChatGPT in their everyday lives, from creating fitness plans to developing recipes.
“With more and more people across the UK using and loving ChatGPT, we want to showcase how it can make your life easier and help you do more of what matters to you,” says Elke Karskens, international marketing director at OpenAI.
The US debut will be followed by ad slots in the UK on ITV, Sky, and Channel 4. It will be supported by billboard ads in a number of cities.
With growing concern in the creative sector around the use of AI, the company has gone out of its way to ensure that no artificial intelligence was used for the actual creative work. Creative Review reports:
Crucially, the campaign was created largely through human endeavour, with the team at OpenAI noting that: “Human craft was central to the campaign’s creation. Every frame was shot on film, shaped by directors, photographers, producers and many more masters of craft.”
That “largely” rider reflects that ChatGPT was used for some background work, with “streamlining shot lists and organising schedules” given as examples.
iPhone users do get access to ChatGPT via a fallback option when Siri is unable to handle their request. However, Apple’s admirable approach to privacy means that you need to grant permission for this, drawing attention to the fact that Siri itself has been unable to provide an answer.
