Press note. In the last three years, 1 out of 4 Spanish SMEs has considered closing due to the strong pressure they have suffered since 2020. However, far from surrendering, these companies have shown a great ability to adapt, which allows them to look at the future with optimism: 1 in 2 expects to increase its customers and income next year And more than half plans to get it by 2030. In addition, 8 out of 10 does not doubt that they will remain open in the next 3 years.

This is one of the main conclusions of the new study ‘Reality of Spanish micropyme: evolution and perspectives for 2030’ of Beedigital, a firm specialized in digital marketing services for SMEs and freelancers in Spain. Taking advantage of half of the decade, the report seeks to understand how small businesses have changed from the outbreak of the pandemic, the challenges they currently face and their forecasts for the coming years.

Despite the complexity of the times lived, since 2020, 45% of the businesses have increased their quota of customers and 3 out of 10 have swell the size of their templates. Family and local economies have been the great beneficiaries of these results, since almost half of those responsible or small businesses claim to be the only source of income of their family unit. 1 out of 4 contributes more than 60%, and in 88% they suppose, at least, half.

While the forecasts are positive, Little businesses are not oblivious to the challenges of the current context. A possible sales decrease (51%), labor costs (49%) and supplies (49%), followed by the Price of suppliers (47%), cyber attacks (38%) or the difficulty in finding the talent they need (38%) lead the concerns of SMEs. Even so, forecasts point to growth.

“Although there are challenges, small businesses trust on the path of recent years, and I think that is one of the main aspects that characterize the 2020s from a business prism”explains Carmen San Emeterio, commercial and marketing director of Beedigital. «Technology and innovation have served to convert challenges into opportunities. We have seen it, for example, with the commitment to digitalization, which has not only allowed to achieve more efficient work models, but also has meant an impulse for sales of many SMEs ».

Digital marketing as a growth lever for Spanish SMEs

During these years, small businesses have implemented different measures in order to guarantee the survival of their business. Together with the price increase (49%) and an improvement in the quality of their products and services (44%), digital marketing has been one of the main protagonists. 4 out of 10 small entrepreneurs have increased their efforts in this area, in order to gain digital presence, especially through their website and social networks.

The trend will remain, with 42% of SMEs with a forecast to increase investment in digital marketing in 2026, with average 20% growth. In addition, 55%will do so in the next three years, with an average increase of 23%, and 61%, in the next 5 years, with an average increase of 27%.

These data confirm that The online presence has become a basic requirement to compete. Being well positioned in search engines when a potential customer looks for a product or service makes the difference between capturing or losing a sale. In the same way, having an updated web page and a constant activity in social networks translates into greater proximity to consumers, more visibility of the supply and more direct and effective communication.

«In Beedigital we have evolved our solutions to respond to the new needs of SMEs, helping them to take advantage of digitalization opportunities and to stay competitive in a market as demanding as the current one. Our technology allows businesses to automate tasks, better manage their brand and strengthen their online presence, without the need for their own department and with the support of expert professionals »explains San Emeterio.
