The arrival of “Blue Lights” season 3 on our screens will delight the audience that began watching the show in May 2023 and astonish those that have somehow missed it. There are police procedurals everywhere but this one manages the trick of avoiding obvious tropes and making the viewer bond with and root for the officers sent out onto the mean streets of Belfast.

Here’s how to watch “Blue Lights” season 3 online from anywhere with a VPN — and potentially for free.

Blue Lights’ season 3 – Dates, time, channel

“Blue Lights” season 3 premieres on Monday, September 29 on BBC One from 9 p.m. BST.
• WATCH FREE — BBC iPlayer (U.K.)
• Watch iPlayer anywhere — try NordVPN 100% risk free

Some of us have still not got over the death of the kindly veteran copper Gerry Cliff (played by Richard Dormer) in season one but the rest of that cast are still with the Northern Ireland Police Service and based at the fictional Blackthorn station.

As you might expect from a show that killed off one of its major characters in the first season, no punches are pulled this time we are promised more hard-hitting and darker stories than ever (see below for co-creator Declan Lawn’s revelations).

These will include a criminal conspiracy, paramilitaries involved with the drug trade and organized crime and the sexual exploitation of children in care. And that’s just the day job. Off-duty offers precious little respite for most of the characters.

Read on to find out how to watch “Blue Lights” season 3 online, on TV and from anywhere.

How to watch ‘Blue Lights’ season 3 from abroad

Thanks to the wonders of a VPN (Virtual Private Network), “Blue Lights” season 3 should be available to Brits no matter where they are. The software allows your devices to appear to be back in your home country regardless of where in the world you find yourself. Our favorite is NordVPN.

Using a VPN is incredibly simple.

1. Install the VPN of your choice. As we’ve said, NordVPN is our favorite.

2. Choose the location you wish to connect to in the VPN app. For instance, if you’re away from the U.K. and want to view a U.K. service, you’d select U.K. from the list.

3. Sit back and watch the show. Head to BBC iPlayer to watch “Blue Lights” season 3 online and on-demand.

‘Blue Lights’ season 3 – FAQ

What has co-creator/ co-writer Declan Lawn said about ‘Blue Lights’ season 3?

“Season three looks at the professional apparatus alongside organised crime, and how paramilitaries in Belfast are often in thrall to international organised crime gangs using the territory as a stopping off point for large scale drug smuggling. It also looks at sexual exploitation of kids in care. These storylines are entirely fictional but informed by careful research so have a real authenticity.

“Cathy Tyson plays Dana Morgan, a new powerful figure on the criminal side, and her nemesis within the police is Intelligence Department cop Paul “Colly” Collins who is played by Michael Smiley. In saying that, many of the regular characters are back and ready for action. We hope there are quite a few gripping moments, and a few emotional ones too. In this season our main characters go through some very difficult things.”

What else can I watch on BBC iPlayer?

Lots – including “Strike: Ink Black Heart”, “Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special”, “Call The Midwife”, “Doctor Who: Joy to the World”, “Strictly Come Dancing”, “Outnumbered” and plenty more.
