With the rising cost of streaming, free streaming apps like The Roku Channel are gaining popularity. Netflix has increased its prices this year, along with Disney+, Apple TV+, and others. However, the TV channels on The Roku Channel, which is the largest free ad-supported streaming platform in the US, remain free. Now, Roku’s massive free channel selection is becoming even larger.
Roku has recently added 14 new free channels to its streaming service, bringing the total number of free live TV channels it has to over 570 (via Cord Cutter News). The new channels offer something for everyone, whether it’s sports, history, business, drama, Halloween, or more.

Sometimes, when Roku updates its channel selection, it can be a bit disappointing, but this update seems to include quite a few interesting channels. A few of my favorites are Shark Tank, American Pickers by History, and Highway Through Hell. Plus, Roku Spooktacular being added is well-timed, with Halloween just around the corner; a new free spooky channel is perfect.
For sports fans in particular, the Yahoo Sports Network could be quite handy, especially with the NFL season in full swing now, the MLB postseason about to start, and the NHL and NBA beginning in October.
If you have any of Roku’s streaming devices, like the Roku Streaming Stick Plus or Roku Ultra, you can open the Roku Channel now and start watching its new free channels. Even if you don’t have a Roku streaming device, you can still watch the Roku Channel by downloading the Roku app on your mobile device, smart TV, or other streaming devices like a Fire TV Stick.
