Threat detection and response firm Vectra AI Inc. today announced that it has acquired Netography Inc., a startup that specializes in cloud-native network observability, for an undisclosed price.
Founded in 2018, Netography offers cloud-native network observability solutions for hybrid, multicloud and legacy environments. The company’s platform, called Neography Fusion, ingests and analyzes network metadata, such as flow logs, DNS records and connectivity patterns, without the need for deploying heavy agents or network taps.
The platform is agentless and uses a software-defined model that allows for rapid deployment and scaling across distributed environments, simplifying how enterprises gain visibility into traffic and connections across their infrastructure.
Fusion is said by Netography to differ from other solutions through its “atomized network” approach, the idea that modern enterprise networks are no longer monolithic or neatly bounded but instead a composite of on-prem, cloud, software-as-a-service, edge and remote components. The platform ingests varied telemetry and provides consistent visibility across all segments.
Netography also supports proactive threat management and integration, with the platform allowing users to define detection rules and policies — for example, violations of trust boundaries or unexpected communication patterns and it can trigger actions such as alerts, BGP flowspec commands, or integration with third-party controls.
With the acquisition, Vectra AI intends to extend its native coverage of the hybrid enterprise and also enrich the accuracy of its attack signal clarity with context from cloud control planes and data planes, which Netography’s Software-Defined Observability offers.
“Network-derived signal is the ultimate source of truth, not only for detecting active threats but also for managing overall exposure,” said Vectra AI Chief Executive Hitesh Sheth. “With Netography, we add the breadth of cloud-native observability to Vectra AI’s depth of attack signal clarity. The outcome is one converged platform that gives security teams the power to proactively and reactively protect hybrid enterprises with unmatched speed and precision.”
Vectra AI says that with Netography becoming part of the Vectra AI Platform, organizations will gain the breadth of frictionless, cloud-native observability and the depth of artificial intelligence-driven attack signal clarity.
Coming into its acquisition, Netography had raised $47.6 million in venture capital over two rounds, including a round of $45 million in November 2021. Investors in the company include Bessemer Venture Partners LP, SYN Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, Mango Capital, Harpoon Ventures and Wing Capital.
