A few months back it was brought up on the Intel driver mailing list around SR-IOV support for Panther Lake’s Xe3 graphics. This goes along with Intel open-source Linux driver developers being quite busy on SR-IOV support for Battlemage dGPUs as part of their Project Battlematrix. Unfortunately, I wasn’t provided any answer at Intel Tech Tour in Arizona whether SR-IOV support will be found with all Panther Lake SKUs or reserved for select offerings.
For Battlemage discrete graphics cards I received confirmation over the summer that SR-IOV support will only be with Intel Arc Pro graphics cards. So for Panther Lake I am curious if they will be supporting SR-IOV on all models or potentially limiting it to some “Pro” laptops or the like.
At the Xe3 round-table during the Intel Tech Tour in Arizona, I asked Tom Petersen about SR-IOV support for Panther Lake given what I’ve seen so far from the Linux driver activity. Well, that was immediately shutdown. Petersen said he will not comment on items brought up by Linux kernel activity/change-logs since he calls them akin to engineering notes.
So for now, while many Linux users are interested in SR-IOV support, I have no insight into where SR-IOV will or will not be supported with Panther Lake. For what Intel was willing to discuss at Intel Tech Tour 2025, see our Intel Panther Lake overview. Intel also used Tech Tour 2025 for announcing Clearwater Forest as Xeon 6+ and the unfortunate shifting open-source strategy.
