From (2022)
This gritty, mysterious sci-fi horror show is a thrilling psychological puzzle about a nightmarish town that a. is accessible from various unknown locations throughout the United States, b. you can never leave, and c. you can never unsee. In their search for a way to escape, as they unravel the town’s hidden secrets, the trapped residents begin to experience strange phenomena in their battle against the psychological impact of their situation.
From follows this group of residents who are trapped in this peculiar place, with no way out. You can try, but all roads lead right back to the center of town, which is relatively safe during the day. At night, though, it turns into a manipulative fight for survival as creatures bearing hideous, unsettling smiles masking sharp, jagged teeth emerge from the woods, hungry to tear apart any resident caught outside. Don’t make the mistake of falling for their charm and inviting them inside either—you will encounter the same fate.
From is a thrilling, frightening, perplexing watch, just in time for the spooky season. It poses several unanswered questions about the town’s history and its ability to ensnare people, as well as the monsters’ origins and the idea that those who find themselves trapped are somehow “from” the town and are thereby connected to its dark history through reincarnation or similar themes.
See what I mean? Head-scratcher.

Outer Range (2022)
Outer Range is a uniquely strange sci-fi neo-Western family saga with hints of a supernatural mystery that examines how we, as humans, grapple with the unknown. It also features an all-star cast led by Josh Brolin.
Brolin stars as Royal Abbott, a Wyoming rancher in the fight of his life for both his land and his family. In the wake of his daughter-in-law’s disappearance, a back-packing stranger with a connection to the Abbott ranch arrives wanting to camp for a few days. At the same time, Royal discovers a mysterious black void in one of his pastures.
As the Abbott family struggles to cope with their grief and frustration, tensions run high when the neighboring Tillerson family makes a bold move for their ranch land. It seems they also know about this unfathomable mystery, but they’re aware of the void’s time-bending properties that the Abbotts are not.
While it is a bit slow in pace, it works to keep you hooked on its unique genre blending, with its intricate plot, compelling performances, and stunning cinematography of gorgeous Wyoming landscapes. Outer Range also features performances from Lewis Pullman, of Top Gun: Maverick, Task’s Tom Pelphrey, Imogen Poots (All of You), Tamara Podemski, of Murderbot, and Yellowstone’s Will Patton.

Taboo (2017)
If I were you, I’d swan dive right into this Tom Hardy-led gritty crime series. It’s dark, it’s provocative, and it’s salaciously scandalous, so grab those pearls and keep them nearby in case you need something to clutch.
Taboo is set in 1814 against the tumultuous backdrop of 19th Century London, amid the War of 1812 and the rise of the East India Trading Company. Our story follows shipping empire heir and adventurer James Delaney (Tom Hardy) as he returns to inherit his late father’s estate. There’s a problem, though.
Because no one has heard from or seen Delaney since he left for South Africa some time ago, he was presumed dead. His return doesn’t just inspire conspiracies and draw out enemies. It also, most importantly, disrupts the conniving plans of his half-sister, her husband, and the trading company, who all seek to control the inheritance for themselves. Now that James is alive and well, they must eliminate him to get what they want. It’s doubtful that’ll work, though, given the nature of those who penned this fabulous series.
Hardy co-wrote Taboo with his father and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who is also penning the upcoming film installment of the epic gangster saga. Though it has been quite some time since season one of Hardy’s hit series debuted, the actor has officially confirmed that season two is in the works and coming soon.
