Sonos has updated its Trueplay feature with iPhone 17 support, letting users fine-tune select speakers for optimal sound. Here are the details.

That was fast

Trueplay is an interesting feature available on the Sonos Arc Ultra, Era 100, and Era 300, and it offers two types of adjustments: quick tuning, and advanced tuning.

While quick tuning utilizes the speakers’ own built-in microphone to optimize their performance based on how sound reflects across the room, advanced tuning uses the iPhone’s microphone for even finer adjustments.

Or, as Sonos puts it:

“Trueplay measures how sound reflects off walls, furnishings and other surfaces in a room, then fine tunes your Sonos speaker to make sure it sounds great no matter where you’ve placed it.”

Historically, Sonos users have noted that the company has been slow to add Trueplay support for new iPhones after their release.

However, as user holmesersimpson observed on Reddit, Sonos has already updated its app to bring Trueplay compatibility to the new iPhone 17 lineup:

“Just wanted to give props to the TruePlay team for getting this shipped less than a month after the phones launched. I remember having to wait until close to Christmas before my new phone could calibrate my system again. Please give my thanks u/teamfromsonos”

The user also noted that despite being available, the feature wasn’t mentioned in recent release notes. This suggests that the feature may still be rolling out, so if you don’t see it yet, it should appear soon.
