Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple is planning a major rethink for the MacBook Pro – and all those upgrades you’ve been dreaming of might finally turn into reality.

The report says we can expect to see MacBook Pro sporting an M6-series chip, an OLED touchscreen and a redesigned chassis that ditches the notch for a Dynamic Island-style camera by late 2026 or early 2027.

If true, this suggests Apple is trying to solve a perennial problem on how to make a touchscreen work with a clamshell design. Apparently Apple is is looking to add “reinforced hinge and screen hardware” to stop the display wobbling when you tap it.

Because the components will now cost more, the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros are likely to cost a “few hundred dollars more” than the current versions. This will push the 14-inch version well above $2,000 and the 16-inch one closer to $3,000.

The idea of a touchscreen MacBook has always been contentious – Steve Jobs hated it and the idea has always divided fans. Whether or not the OLED upgrade will be optional or not remains to be seen.

One thing’s for sure though: an OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro would be the single biggest display change in years, and it would finally address the one area where macOS laptops have trailed behind Windows hardware.
