Nothing seems determined to end the year in style. Carl Pei’s brand has just teased a new smartphone model, the Nothing Phone 3a Litewhich will be officially presented this week.

For now, the brand has made do with the bare minimum. In its post on X (Twitter), the company did not reveal the slightest indication of the technical specifications of this new model. The name of the device, however, suggests that it will be less powerful than the three devices released earlier in the year: the Nothing Phone 3the Nothing Phone (3a) and the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro. The brand could, for example, opt for a less efficient SoC than the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 which equips the 3a and 3a Pro versions – but this is only speculation at present.

In the same way, we can reasonably expect that this new Lite model will be positioned in the entry-level segment and will therefore be less expensive than its cousins. If this is true, Nothing could hit very hard. As a reminder, its smartphones are already significantly more affordable than the flagships of other brands; for reference, the Nothing Phone 3a is offered to 349 €a Price which makes it “one of the best value for money at the moment”, according to our test.

Will this Lite model also manage to stand out in this area? To find out, you will have to wait until the official presentation, planned Wednesday October 29. But until then, Nothing will also have to manage a new controversy which is starting to swell on social networks.

The beginning of the era of bloatware ?

To provide context, the brand has often distinguished itself by promising a operating system « own » and devoid of bloatwares — this unnecessary software that consumes space and resources without apparent justification. But according to Gizmodousers have discovered that version 4.0 beta of Nothing OSthe brand’s operating system, would break with this philosophy.

Indeed, this update contains a new application called Lock Glimpse. This software installed by default apparently allows you to automatically alternate between different wallpapers… which present links to advertising content. Enough to provoke strong reactions on social networks, some Internet users going so far as to speak of “ treason ».

Of course, this is not entirely a surprise. The co-founder Eye Gospel had already announced the color a few weeks earlier. During an event in India, he explained that all of the brand’s smartphones (with the exception of flagships) would now be equipped with ” carefully selected third-party apps “. A concession presented as essential in order to maintain the aggressive pricing positioning of the brand. But it will be interesting to observe the impact of this renunciation, knowing that many Nothing fans had specifically chosen it for the sobriety of its software ecosystem.
