Instagram is rolling out a new test that lets select users fine-tune what they’d like to see in their Reels and Explore feeds. Here’s what it looks like.

’A meaningful new way to shape what you see’

Instagram lead Adam Mosseri took to Threads today to announce the new algorithm tuning test, where he also shared a screenshot of what the feature looks like.

From his post:

“Today we’re starting to test a way for you to tune your algorithm on Instagram by adding and removing topics based on your interests. We’re launching this feature on Reels first, with plans to expand to Explore soon.”

Mosseri also said that the company is exploring a similar idea for Threads, where a recent trend had users publishing tongue-in-cheek posts directed at “the algorithm”, and asking it to connect them with other users with similar interests.

Back to the Instagram test, he also said that the goal is to give people “more control over their Instagram experience,” which echoes previous statements tied to updates that added more ways to limit sensitive content, expand parental controls, or mark recommended posts as not interesting.

Mosseri didn’t specify which users will gain access to the test on Instagram, nor when a similar experiment might roll out on Threads.

Here’s his original post, along with a screenshot showing what the feature currently looks like:
