Discussing the early days of iPhone 17 availability during the quarterly report conference call, Apple CEO Tim Cook “intentionally dodged” a question on per-model performance, but hinted that demand for the base iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro is strong. Here are the details.

Light on details of the iPhone Air

During today’s conference call following Apple’s Q4 2025 results, CEO Tim Cook said that iPhone 17 supply remains constrained, suggesting demand has been stronger than the company anticipated.

This aligns with what analysts have been reporting, from early reception signals to Apple’s manufacturing orders for the entire iPhone 17 lineup.

The iPhone Air (which was barely mentioned during the conference call) has reportedly been moved to an “end-of-cycle” production volume, while the iPhone 17 and Pro models have seen increased orders.

When pressed for details on how each iPhone 17 model is performing, Tim Cook noted that Apple doesn’t report sales by device and admitted he was “dodging the question intentionally.” He did note that Apple is “constrained at the top and the entry” of the line, yet another hint that the iPhone Air may be underperforming.

Interestingly, Cook also mentioned twice that Apple remained constrained with the iPhone 16 during the quarter, a sign that demand remained strong even in the lead-up to the iPhone 17 launch. Cook also noted that Apple “could have sold more” units of the iPhone 16 during the period.

Apple’s Q4 2025 ended on September 27, meaning the quarter captured only the first few days of iPhone 17 availability. Apple reported $102.47 in revenue, up 8% compared with the same quarter last year.
