It’s a marketing operation as effective as it is unexpected that could transform Disney’s approach to cinema. In France, the American giant will offer from November 26 to 30, 2025, an exclusive collector’s card of the Disney TCG Lorcana to spectators who attend screenings of the film Zootopia 2. A new operation which reinforces the event dimension of the game, while offering a serious promotional campaign for the new animated adventures of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.
No choice, we’ll have to go to the cinema
The Zootopia 2 collector’s card distributed by Pathé is more than just a goodie: it is a strong selling point for players and collectors. While the 10 Lights of the Deep set will be marketed on November 14 (and from November 7 in preview), the operation sounds like a cross approach between cinematic experience and the world of the collectible card game. However, it will not be a completely new card, but a map redesign Putting the Clues Together, in an alternative and foil version. The latter will only be accessible in participating cinemas, in a limited edition, during the film’s launch period. To benefit from it, you will need to book your screening directly via the Pathé cinemas website.
This type of initiative is not new at Disney, which capitalizes on the passion of fans to expand the reach of its franchises. But the distribution of special Lorcana cards in cinemas marks a rise in power of the TCG phenomenon in the family entertainment sector. The formula is a winner for Disney: not only will players be more likely to go to the cinema to obtain their collector’s card, but also novice fans of the animated film will be able to introduce themselves to the TCG through Jared Bush’s animated film.
Be ready
With the arrival of Pixar in Lorcana planned for 2026, the franchise continues to expand its universe and its collaborations. For Disney, each collector’s card is an opportunity to capitalize on new levers, by playing on the heartstrings of collectors and players. We must logically expect that the operation will be a success, and that the system will be renewed with each important release for animation studios. Ultimately, we can even hope for (really) exclusive promotional cards, reserved for the most loyal movie fans of the big-eared franchise.
