The next-generation wireless standard, Wi-Fi 8, is expected to launch in 2028, Qualcomm China announced Monday. Unlike previous generations that focused primarily on maximizing speed, Wi-Fi 8 centers on “ultra high reliability” as its core goal. Through innovations such as multi-access point coordination and seamless roaming, it aims to achieve a 25% increase in throughput, a 25% reduction in latency, and a 25% decrease in packet loss in complex environments. The standard is expected to support demanding use cases such as industrial automation, remote healthcare and holographic communication.
