Since the end of support for Windows 10 last month, many users are looking for solutions to extend the life of their machines. This is where Flyoobe comes in, a free utility that simplifies the transition to Windows 11, even on computers deemed “incompatible” by Microsoft.
A practical tool turned into a trap
The tool – formerly known as Flyby11 – allows you to bypass compatibility checks linked to the TPM module or processor. It also offers the possibility of customizing the system as you wish: removing unnecessary applications, deactivating artificial intelligence functions, and installing common software directly during installation. Everything Microsoft should offer, in short.
But the popularity of the program attracted attention. The developer of Flyoobe has published a security alert on GitHub to report the existence of a fraudulent site, flyoobe(.)net, which distributes a modified version of the software. “ This site has no link with our project and could contain an altered or infected executable “, he warns. The creator invites users to only download Flyoobe from the official GitHub page and reminds that any other link constitutes an unreliable source.
The trap is formidable because the fraudulent domain appears legitimate at first glance. However, this malicious clone could compromise user security as soon as Windows is installed. Cybersecurity researchers point out that tools with full access to the operating system represent a prime target for hackers. Downloading a system program from an unverified source exposes you to considerable risks: keyloggers, ransomware, Trojans or spies capable of collecting sensitive data. In some cases, the hacked tool appears to work normally, while discreetly installing backdoors that are impossible to detect.
Faced with the situation, the community hopes that the fraudulent site will be quickly deactivated. In the meantime, the developer’s message remains unambiguous: “ Download only from GitHub. If another site offers it to you, run away. » The success of Flyoobe can be explained by the frustration of many users, forced to abandon Windows 10 or replace their still functional hardware. Thanks to this tool, older PCs can continue to run Windows 11 without resorting to overly complicated operations.
But this episode reminds us of something obvious to always keep in mind: caution is required, especially when it comes to software capable of modifying the heart of the system. The best habit remains the simplest: check the source before clicking.
