Google has started rolling out Gemini for TV to Google TV Streamer devices, expanding its new AI experience to more homes worldwide. The update will gradually take over from Google Assistant in the coming weeks, allowing users to talk to their TV in a more natural way. Gemini for TV: What It Can Do
Gemini aims to make everyday interactions smoother. You can ask it to look up movies, tell you what a show is about, or control your smart lights and cameras. It does most of what Google Assistant already could – but it’s built to understand follow-up questions and keep up with casual conversations.

It can also handle more personal requests, like suggesting movies for two people with different tastes or summarising what happened in the last season of a show. You can say things like, “I like thrillers but my partner prefers comedies – what should we watch?” and Gemini will suggest a few options. Google says Gemini isn’t just for entertainment. It can explain topics in simple terms, help with quick learning, or even guide you through cooking recipes on YouTube. For example, you can ask, “Explain how volcanoes erupt for a third grader,” and Gemini will simplify it for children.
How to Try Gemini for TV
To use Gemini, connect the Google TV Streamer to your television via the HDMI port (HDCP 1.3 or later). Before using Gemini, make sure your Google TV Streamer has the latest software update and a stable internet connection. To turn it on, press the mic button on your Google TV Streamer remote.
You can check if the update has reached your device by heading to Settings > Accounts & Profiles > Voice Assistant, where a new “Gemini for TV” option should appear. The rollout will happen in phases and reach more regions in the coming weeks.
