Introduction
Washer dryers aren’t the most popular appliances because they have less space for washing than separate appliances, but the Samsung Bespoke AI Laundry Combo WD90F53AVSUS Vented changes that. This large all-in-one machine can take 5.3 cu. ft of washing and take it from dirty to clean and dry in one go.
It’s simple to use and powerful, and this vented version can easily take the place of an existing washing machine and vented dryer, making for a quick swap.
It is a bit more expensive to run than the non-vented Samsung Bespoke AI Laundry Combo WD53DBA900HZA1 though, but remains an excellent appliance that’s packed with handy features and smart control.
Design and Features
- Large drum
- Comprehensive control panel
- Compatible with SmartThings
A second all-in-one model from Samsung, the Samsung Bespoke AI Laundry Combo WD90F53AVSUS Vented, is a vented version of the ventless washer dryer that we’ve already reviewed and loved. That’s the only real big difference, and this model is designed for those who already have the venting duct in place for a tumble dryer and want to replace that.
The question you might have is, why would you want to swap two appliances for one? The simple answer is convenience. Rather than having to unload the washing machine and load up the tumble dryer, this all-in-one can take dirty clothes, wash them and dry them in one go, for added convenience.

It’s a very large washer-dryer with a 5.3 cu. ft. drum. That’s even bigger than the capacity of the LG 5.0 cu. ft. Washer Dryer Combo WM6998HBA. The good news, then, is that you’re not sacrificing washing space to get convenience and, overall, this washer dryer takes up slightly less space than two machines.
Layout and features are similar for this machine as with the non-vented model. At the bottom of the machine are two tanks for cleaning fluids, with one for detergent and one for fabric softener. They add to the convenience, as you can throw a load of washing in and let the machine handle detergent dosing.

At the top of the machine are the panels for the lint filter and manual bleach dispenser, all within easy reach.
The lint filter needs to be removed and cleaned at the end of every drying cycle, just like you would do with a standalone tumble dryer. It’s good to see a filter like this on a washer dryer; smaller models tend not to have one, and the insides can get clogged with fluff over time. Cleaning the filter is very easy to do.
Control of the Samsung Bespoke AI Laundry Combo WD90F53AVSUS Vented is via the 7-inch colour LCD panel. It’s a brilliant system, as all of the wash modes are cleanly explained, so you know exactly what each option does.

The display is responsive and clear. Sometimes I have found displays on smart appliances to actually make things slower by way of them being clunky, but that’s not the case here. Everything is clearly laid out and presses are registered instantly.
As with other recent Samsung appliances, there’s also a choice of apps including Spotify, YouTube and Ring. I can get why being able to see your doorbell from the washing machine might be useful, but would I listen to Spotify on a washing machine? No way.

Alongside standard wash cycles, this machine has a steam setting to help remove stains and refresh clothes, plus modes for bedding, towels, wool and more. Drying can be added on top of any wash cycle, and there are also dedicated drying cycles.
At the end of a cycle, the washing machine door opens automatically, which helps keeps clothes fresh without having to constantly turn the drum. I absolutely love this feature, and have missed it endlessly since switching back to my far less smart personal machine.

SmartThings compatibility is built in. As well as giving remote control, SmartThings sends notifications when a cycle is completed, so you only have to pop back to the washer dryer when it’s ready.
Performance
- Excellent stain removal
- Low washing costs
- More expensive drying costs
I ran the Samsung Bespoke AI Laundry Combo WD90F53AVSUS Vented through a set of standard tests. With a normal wash, the cycle cost is around $0.09, which makes this machine as cheap to run as any regular washing machine. My clothes were a little wetter than I’d like, adding 56% through water retention (40% or lower is the result I’d ideally want), but this is not a huge issue.
Stain removal in this setting was very good, and as you can see from the images below, the machine did an excellent job at removing the majority of the oil, ketchup, gravy and wine stains.
Moving to the Heavy Duty wash cycle, the cost increased to a still-decent $0.29, which is similar to the same wash cycle on the non-vented model. Here, my clothes came out a similar 50.29% heavier.
The stain removal here was marginally better, with most of the stain residue being removed.
For lightly stained items, the cold wash costs just $0.05 in my tests, which is very cheap. Clothes come out around 49% heavier.
As you’d expect, there is a little more of the stain left over on this mode; however, if you’re just trying to get lighter marks out or give clothes a freshen up, then it’s fantastic and does a very good job.
Switching to drying mode, the Samsung Bespoke AI Laundry Combo WD90F53AVSUS Vented is quite a bit more expensive to run than the non-vented model, which uses a heat pump.

For cupboard dry clothes, the Samsung Bespoke AI Laundry Combo WD90F53AVSUS Vented cost $1.45 to run, compared to $0.27 on the non-vented model. That cost is in line with other vented cleaners. I was pleased to see that my clothes came out with 99% of the moisture removed, showing that it is an excellent dryer.
Should you buy it?
You want quality washing and drying in one unit
A combined washer and dryer, this machine has excellent drying performance and is brilliant at removing stains. Plus it has smart feature you’ll actually use.
You can get the ventless version
If it’s a straight choice between the vented, and ventless models – the ventless is cheaper to run.
Final Thoughts
The Samsung Bespoke AI Laundry Combo WD90F53AVSUS Vented is a fantastic washer dryer, that does both exceptionally well.
But really, what makes this machine so easy to recommend is that it’s a complete package. It looks great – smart and sleek, with a modern finish – and it’s easy and intuitive to control. If you want a single appliance to replace two, this is an excellent choice.
However, if you can get the non-vented Samsung Bespoke AI Laundry Combo WD53DBA900HZA1 then you probably should. It’s a little cheaper to run.
How We Test
Unlike other sites, we test every washer dryer we review thoroughly over an extended period of time. We use standard tests to compare features properly. We’ll always tell you what we find. We never, ever, accept money to review a product.
Find out more about how we test in our ethics policy.
- We test compatibility with the main smart systems (HomeKit, Alexa, Google Assistant, SmartThings, IFTTT and more) to see how easy each machine is to remote control
- We test each machine with the same stains to see which ones are best at cleaning
- We test with the same sets of clothes for each machine, run through a cycle on our test washing machine, so we can compare energy costs and drying performance between tumble dryers
