Sony has announced a new, more affordable PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, but there’s a major catch – it’s only available in Japan. Alongside the console, the company also unveiled a new PlayStation-branded gaming monitor featuring a 240Hz refresh rate and a built-in DualSense charging dock. Both products were introduced during Sony’s State of Play Japan broadcast on Tuesday. Also Read: Sony Confirms State Of Play Japan Broadcast For This Week: PS5 Fans Can Expect Big Reveals

New PS5 Digital Edition For Japan

The new PS5 Digital Edition is priced at JPY 55,000 (approx. Rs 31,500), which is a big drop from the standard PS5 Digital Edition that sells for Rs 49,990 in India. However, this cheaper version comes with a limitation – it’s a Japanese-language-only model, intended solely for sale within Japan. news Also Read: GTA 5 Might Be Coming Back To PS Plus This November: All You Need To Know

Sony’s move comes as the PlayStation 5 nears its fifth year on the market. The company recently confirmed that it has sold 84.2 million units, slightly behind the 86.1 million milestone reached by the PS4 in the same time frame. The new low-cost model seems designed to attract more domestic users and boost the PS5’s momentum in Japan. news Also Read: PS Plus Monthly Games For November Revealed: Check The Full List Of Free Titles Here

The console will reportedly start shipping from November 21. Sony has not shared any plans for a global launch of the affordable PS5 Digital Edition.

Industry Trend Behind Region-Specific Models

Sony seems to follow the growing trend of releasing Japan-only consoles in the home country. Recently, Nintendo introduced a Japanese-language-only Switch 2 model to boost sales in the market. Such regional releases allow companies to appeal to local consumers without impacting global pricing structures.

Sony’s 240Hz PlayStation Monitor Revealed

In addition to the console, Sony also introduced a 27-inch QHD IPS PlayStation monitor that supports up to 240Hz on PC and 120Hz on PS5, with VRR and HDR support. The monitor includes a built-in charging hook capable of holding and charging either a DualSense or DualSense Edge controller.

The monitor will launch in Japan and the U.S. in 2026, but Sony hasn’t announced a global release or official pricing yet. For connectivity, the PlayStation monitor features two HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4, USB Type-A and Type-C ports, and built-in stereo speakers with a 3.5mm jack.

For now, both the Japan-only PS5 Digital Edition and the PlayStation monitor remain unavailable for Indian buyers, and there is no word about their launch in other markets.
