Honor’s new Magic 8 Pro looks like another powerhouse flagship, but European buyers will be getting a slightly different version under the hood.

Previously, we’ve covered how Magic 8 Pro will focus on smart features and a battery upgrade. However, Honor has confirmed that the EU model comes with a smaller battery than the one sold in China, a move that’s already stirring up debates among fans who want the best specs, no matter where they live.

In China, the Magic 8 Pro packs a massive 7,200mAh silicon-carbon battery, among the largest we’ve seen in a mainstream flagship smartphone. Pair it with the 120W fast charging and 80W wireless charging, and you’re looking at a phone that goes from empty to full in under half an hour. However, the global and EU versions will be taking a step back.

The global version, which covers most markets except the EU, will drop slightly to 7,100mAh, a modest 2% reduction that users are unlikely to notice when using the phone. The European model, however, sees a more significant downgrade to 6,270mAh.

That’s nearly 12% less than the Chinese model. Yes, it’s still an upgrade from the previous Magic 7 Pro, which featured a 5,270mAh battery; however, the cut is noticeable and could result in shorter screen-on times.

Charging speeds are also slightly reduced for Western markets. Wireless charging stays fast at 80W everywhere, but charging drops from 120W in China to 100W elsewhere.

Honor hasn’t officially explained the reason behind the battery reduction, but it may be linked to regional safety certifications, thermal regulations, or just keeping up with supply.

Even with the smaller battery, the EU version should still outlast its predecessor and hit more than 13 hours of active use, according to Honor.

Still, it’s clear that European buyers will miss out on the full power package if they don’t receive the same features as those enjoyed by Chinese users. The global launch is expected soon, so it won’t be long before we see how these numbers play out in real life.
